Atticus Finch Defends a Negro in Court!

On August 26th my son, Atticus Finch was trying for Tom Robinson at the Maycomb Court. Bob Ewell caught that dirty man in the act of raping his daughter Mayella. I can’t believe my son would defend someone like that, not only because he raped her because he is black! Although his statements were good, after a three hour discussion, the jury came to a guilty verdict. Tom is now sentenced to the electric chair since rape is a capital offense in Alabama. His daughter Jean Finch, and son Jeremy, witnessed this whole trial without Atticus’s permission. They both support Tom aswell and sat with the negros during the trial.
Maycomb’s Halloween Pageant

As I watched my two nephews, Jean and Jeremy leave the house to head over to the pageant , I had a funny feeling about just letting them walk there and back all by themselves. I called a friend who had gone to the pageant to see what had happened. The pageant was to display all of Maycomb’s specialty foods and crops that are in their town. The host of the pageant, Mrs. Merriweather frowned upon Jean-Louise because she made a fool of her by coming on the stage early and fell asleep backstage and missed her cue. Mrs. Merriweather was very mad but the crowd took the incident as a joke. Overall the pageant was successful at displaying Maycomb’sprized crops and foods.
